Students at ILS have begun practices for the upcoming Choral Vespers worship service, held on Wednesday, December 19th. Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade will add songs, instrumental music, and spoken recitations to the service as we share the story of Chirstmas! This year’s Choral Vespers service is entitled “Christmas Jubilee”. This classic Christmas worship service centers on the Old Testament concept of the jubilee year – which includes redemption, freedom and restoration – as it describes Christ’s coming. We invite you to join us for this wonderful evening at ILCS!
As a student body, we had the opportunity to practice selfless giving during the past month as we collected items for Operation Christmas Child. Toys, candy, and personal hygeine items were collected and donated by the ILS families. We collected over $700 to offset postage costs as well! Boxes were packed with the help of our Student Council members last week as we prepared them for shipping. In chapel, we dedicated 291 boxes (pictured above) that will leave ILS and be sent to various countries throughout the world which will bring hope, joy, and the Good News of Jesus to the chidren that receive and open them.
Come and enjoy a night of family fun at Trunk or Treat. This PTL sponsored event will be held Sat, October 27th from in Immanuel’s parking lot. Some activities include pumpkin decorating, crafts, and a cupcake walk. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Trunk or Treat is a free and safe way for the whole family to enjoy Halloween!
ILS started this school year with 210 students in Preschool through 8th grade. Our support to parents in the Christian Education of their children has been a key element to the mission and ministry of Immanuel for the last 150 years.
In honor of our Lord and the past 150 years of blessings, our capital campaign this year is titled, "Serving the Savior". As we kick-off a new annual campaign, we invite you to consider a special gift in support of the ministry of our school. The gifts given through this campaign go to support various capital needs, including the playground, technology, gym renovations, and tuition assistance. In the past three years, over $50,000 has been given to the school. If you are interested in giving a gift to ILS or would like to know more about the "Serving the Savior" campaign, contact Alan Wunderlich (239-4705).
This year, the school children have made a display describing the benefits they see of their Christian Education (see picture to left). Stop by the display in the school lobby and read firsthand how your help and support has touched our students. What a difference Immanuel has made in their lives! We thank you for your past support and humbly ask you to consider supporting ILS once again this year!
September 20th through 22nd is this year’s Apple Butter Cook! Now we need your commitment! In order to make this event run smoothly, we need to fill in approximately 180 slots for various tasks throughout the apple butter event. Tasks include set-up, cutting and coring of apples, stirring the apples while cooking, jarring the apple butter, and the clean-up afterwards. If you are interested in helping out, stop by the sign-up table outside the school office or call the school (239-1636). If you aren’t able to commit during the week, come out on Saturday! What a great way to support the school and get to know more people in our school and church and join in an Immanuel tradition!
Once again, a new school year is upon us and our halls are full of energy as we welcomed students back to ILS. This year we celebrate our 150th year of providing Christian Education to the families in the Washington area through our school! We can't think of a better reason to celebrate! Throughout the school year, we will highlight different activities and events of our past 150 years and share pictures from our archives in our chapel services as well as the weekly newsletter. We are excited to have you alongside us as we continue a long tradition at Immanuel Lutheran and look forward to what God has in store for us in the future!
Our new gym floor is almost done! The picture to the left appears to show a wood floor, but it is actually VCT tile. The lines for the court are being inlaid for volleyball (now with a 10' kill line) and basketball (now complete with a 3-point line)! When all work is complete, we will have a center logo of the crusaders also waxed into the floor, banners of teams in our league, and refinished bleachers. We are looking forward to the completion of this project as well as cheering on our volleyball and basketball teams this season in our newly renovated gym!
Registration for the 2012-2013 school year will be held the week of August 6th for parents of Kindergarten through 8th grade students. Parents may stop by anytime between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm on August 6th through 9th. An evening registration meeting has been set for August 7th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. It is extremely important that each family be represented. If you are not available on these dates, please call the school office at 239-1636. An evening orientation session for all new students and all children entering Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten is scheduled for Thursday, August 9th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. All registration sessions will be held in the church narthex on the main floor of the facility.
Faith Hallien was born to Mr. and Mrs. Hallien on April 3rd and has been in intensive care ever since. With a long road in front of them, the ILS school families wanted to visibly show their support of the Hallien family. Pink t-shirts with the phrase “Gotta Have Faith” were sold to interested ILS families and students. In just two days, over 240 shirts were sold! On Monday, we took a picture of the students, staff, and parents wearing these shirts. As you can see, there was quite a bit of pink in the bleachers! Just one more way that the ILS family has visibly been showing our love and support for the Halliens. “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our FAITH.” Hebrews 12:2
There were 169 students that have been selected as the 2012
Missouri Valley Young Achievers. The students will be recognized in two ceremonies this Sunday at East Central College. We are proud to announce that ILS had 8 students of the 169 selected as Young Achievers! In addition, ten of these students were selected as Medallion Award Recipients – among the ten is ILS student Ashley Sincox in 8th grade! What great news to receive of our student accomplishments!
