Welcome Back to School!
The theme for the 2010-2011 school year will be “Serving in His Steps”. This theme is based on the apostle Peter’s words found in 1 Peter 4:10-11, stating that “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”
What is service? Webster defines the word service as “an act of giving assistance to another”. This is a great start as we begin to understand what service is. But what does the Bible have to say about serving? According to God’s Word, we as Christians should:
· Serve wholeheartedly (Ephesians 6:7)
· Serve one another in love (Galatians 5:13)
· Serve not because you must, but because you are willing (1 Peter 5:2)
During this school year, we will focus on Bible stories about various acts of service and apply them to our lives today. Not only will your children be taught the importance of serving but it will also be modeled by their teachers, staff, and fellow students. Our children will serve others through a variety of service projects, designed to train them in volunteering their time to serve members of our community. It is our hope that at all times, your children will see that “It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Colossians 3:24)
